Giants rookie WR Kadarius Toney to see more targets vs. Saints?

The winless New York Giants were, at absolute best, one of the worst teams of the opening three weeks of the NFL season largely because of the club's well-noted offensive struggles. Rookie wide receiver and first-round draft selection Kadarius Toney was largely a missing man across those first three losses, as he wasn't targeted once in the Week 2 defeat at the Washington Football Team and has thus far caught only four passes for 14 yards.

As Ryan Dunleavy explained for the New York Post, Big Blue receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton are dealing with hamstring injuries suffered in this past Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons, and head coach Joe Judge told reporters Tuesday he's working on getting Toney more involved in the offense.

"It’s something we’re focused on right now," Judge said of Toney receiving more touches starting with the Week 4 matchup at the New Orleans Saints. "We’ve got to get him the ball and we definitely want to. We saw [Sunday] a couple of glimpses of just him with the ball in his hands. He’s got the ability to make some guys miss in space, he runs hard and he competes. He comes off the ball with a different level of speed than a lot of guys."

Judge added: "I’m not going to say we’re going to manufacture 50-60 snaps artificially with [Toney], but in terms of how the Saints are playing, and if the opportunity presents itself, we’ll definitely try to get him the ball."

As the Post's Paul Schwartz wrote, Giants fans are growing increasingly restless, particularly with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and his apparent unwillingness to take more chances down the field during drives. The truth is Garrett may need Toney for job security as much as the Giants need the 22-year-old to average more than under two receptions per game.
