Giants TE Evan Engram out, RB Saquon Barkley questionable Thursday night at Washington

The New York Giants were hoping that Pro Bowl tight end Evan Engram would be recovered enough from his lingering calf issue to play in Thursday's prime-time game at the Washington Football Team.

That won't be the case.

Per Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports, the Giants have officially ruled Engram out for the "Thursday Night Football" divisional encounter. Additionally, New York guard Shane Lemieux (knee) and linebacker Cam Brown (hamstring) also won't play.

With Engram out a second straight week, veteran free-agent acquisition Kyle Rudolph will once again start as New York's TE1. Rudolph caught only two of five targets for eight yards in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Denver Broncos, during which the Big Blue offense failed to inspire confidence throughout the afternoon.

Meanwhile, star running back Saquon Barkley is listed as questionable as he continues to work toward returning to 100% from the torn ACL he suffered nearly 12 months ago. Barkley was held to 26 yards on 10 carries in Sunday's defeat, and he played in 48% of New York's offensive snaps. However, Giants head coach Joe Judge said Monday the 24-year-old came out of the Denver game "good for us" and had no significant setback.

Barring an unexpected update, it's believed Barkley will take the field Thursday night, but it remains unclear how many touches he'll get on such a short turnaround.
