Dalton Schultz could have made more money had he entered free agency as arguably the most productive tight end on the market. But Tuesday morning, Schultz decided to re-sign with the Houston Texans, agreeing to a three-year deal worth $36.0 million.

Schultz enjoyed his first season in Houston following a five-year stint with the Dallas Cowboys. Not only did he adore the franchise, but Schultz also enjoyed playing alongside Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud, who catapulted the Texans into playoff contention within his first year.

In addition to Stroud, Schultz also enjoyed playing in a system led by offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.

"Bobby is a heck of an offensive coach," Schultz said during his guest appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. "He’s a great offensive mind. I’m excited, too, because there was a lot of trust between Bobby and C.J. being two first-year guys. I think that relationship only going to grow."

In his first season at the helm as the Texans' offensive play-caller, Houston's offense improved dramatically under Slowik. They finished the regular season ranked 12th in yards, averaging 342.4 and scoring 22.2 points.

The 36-year-old offensive coordinator also helped Stroud put together one of the best seasons by a rookie quarterback in his first year under center.

He became a highly sought-after coaching candidate following Houston's postseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens in January. But Slowik decided not to take a head coaching job to return for his second season working under coach DeMeco Ryans.

"Bobby is going to grow a lot in his second year of play-calling," Schultz said. "I am excited to see what he comes up with in Year 2, now that we are not starting from ground zero. It's going to be fun."

Schultz appeared in 15 games for the Texans last season. He recorded 59 passes for 635 yards and five touchdowns while averaging a career-high 10.8 yards per catch.
