The Green Bay Packers are heading into Week 2 on Sunday. Last week, they came away with a win against the Chicago Bears by a score of 38-20. The Packers’ defense is considered to be the team’s strong point, with veteran experience from last season.

According to the Packers’ outside linebacker coach, Jason Rebrovich, one veteran player sets the standard for the Green Bay Packers defense.

Bill Huber was the first to report on what was said by the outside linebackers coach.

Green Bay Packers OLB Coach Gave A Compliment To Rashan Gary As A Leader On Defense

Rashan Gary is seen as a true leader on the Green Bay Packers defense. Having a quick burst off the line of scrimmage, and being able to get around or through opposing defenders.

Rashan Gary’s Stats With The Green Bay Packers

Last season, Rashan Gary tore his ACL, which kept him out of games for the Green Bay Packers. Since 2021, Gary has recorded 15.5 sacks, and 40 quarterback hits. At Soldier Field in Week 1, the outside linebacker had seven pressures on quarterback, Justin Fields.

Packers Defense in 2023

The Green Bay Packers have an opportunity to be one of the top defenses in 2023. Returning players like Kenny Clark, Preston Smith, Jaire Alexander, Darnell Savage, and Rasul Douglas help that case with having previous years of experience.

In Week 1, the Packers had a total of four sacks on defense. Savage led the way with 10 solo tackles. Rasul Douglas and Keisean Nixon added eight tackles a piece for the Packers’ secondary. Rookie defensive lineman,  Luke Van Ness was able to record one sack on Justin Fields, while the Bears were in the red zone early on in the game.

Outside linebacker, Rashan Gary is looking to get a big contract extension as he has entered his fifth season with the Packers. If he stays healthy and keeps producing on defense, his time in Green Bay may be long from over. For his coach to give him such huge recognition it means that he is a special player, and plays a critical role in the Packers’ defensive success.

Fans want to see Gary back on the field as a permanent starter sooner rather than later. Hopefully, he continues to set the standard as his career progresses!
