Insider says Chiefs TE Travis Kelce will join brother in retirement at seasons' end
Only hours before the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Buffalo Bills in the AFC divisional round, former reporter and sideline broadcaster Michele Tafoya dropped a bombshell about the future of All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce.
Appearing on CBS Sports Radio, Tafoya said a source believes Kelce will join his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, and retire after the season.
"I think he's looking at future plans now with his brother retiring," Tafoya said
Unsurprisingly, Tafoya didn't reveal her source. However, it's not hard to believe that Kelce might be mulling the idea of walking away from the game.
He's played 11 seasons in the NFL, and at 34 years old, there's not much else for the multiple-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champ to do.
The elder Kelce has not officially announced his retirement, but the writing is seemingly on the wall. The 13-year vet was visibly emotional following the Eagles' loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the postseason, painting a picture of a player who knows this is the end of the road.
He recently addressed the rumors, confirming that he's yet to make a decision before adding that when he does, he wants to do it right.
Whether or not the Chiefs' tight end follows his sibling into a life off the field is still debatable. However, if they both walk into the sunset together, Tafoya suggested a nearly perfect second career for the pair, who already host a wildly successful podcast, "New Heights."
"I could totally see those two pulling a Peyton and Eli Manning sort of gig, maybe on Peacock, become a campaign piece to 'Sunday Night Football,'" Tafoya said.
It would certainly be a shocking and somewhat abrupt end for Kelce in the NFL, but if this is it for arguably one of the best tight ends of all time, he'll leave a massive hole behind in Kansas City.
Among tight ends all-time, Kelce ranks fourth in receptions (907) and yards (11,328) and sixth in touchdowns (74).
