Is 49ers' Sam Darnold now seeing ghosts off the field?

It appears ghosts aren't just haunting San Francisco 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold during games at this stage of his career. 

Per Miles Schachner of the New York Post, Darnold stayed at a pool house owned by San Francisco star tight end George Kittle after the signal-caller joined the 49ers as a free agent earlier this offseason. 

While Darnold no longer lives there, he suggested during a recent appearance on the "Pardon My Take" podcast he wasn't the property's only guest. 

"I woke up, and you know how sometimes you have a dream and then you wake up and you feel like you can’t move for like maybe four or five seconds, whatever it is? I felt that, and I woke up, it was like 3 a.m ...," Darnold explained about his experience. "And then, that next night, the same thing happened, and I couldn’t, like, I had to keep focusing on this thing...there was something else in the room." 

Back in the fall of 2019, Darnold admitted to "seeing ghosts" while playing for the New York Jets against the New England Patriots. The Jets traded Darnold to the Carolina Panthers after the 2020 campaign and then spent the second overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft on Zach Wilson. 

Some believed last season Wilson saw "ghosts" before he was benched on multiple occasions and then replaced atop the Gang Green depth chart by future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.

"But it was just like super, super weird, and it just felt like when I woke up there was something, like, holding on to me, and then that next night, I ... felt that something was in the room with me, and it was ... the freakiest thing," Darnold continued about his encounter. "I’m like getting chills talking about it right now, but that’s never happened to me before." 

Darnold reportedly is the favorite to ultimately serve as San Francisco's primary backup behind starter Brock Purdy this coming season. 49ers fans will hope the 2018 first-round draft choice won't see any "ghosts" if he's called into action for meaningful games beginning in September.
