Since Chris Ballard took over as general manager, the  Colts have had one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. However, Indy has been searching for a left tackle to solidify its offensive line. Ballard drafted Bernard Rainmann in the third round of the 2022 draft.

Colts History at left tackle?

Anthony Castonzo retired after the 2020-21 season and the colts had to find another left tackle. Castonzo anchored a strong offensive line since being drafted in 2011. Castonzo suited up for 144 games and was one of the best-left tackles in the NFL.

The Colts offensive line was one of the worst units during the Andrew Luck era. However, Anthony Castonzo was a mainstay and wasn’t cut or traded when Chris Ballard was hired. Other great left tackles include; Chris Hinton, Tarik Glenn, Ryan Diem, Adam Meadows, Will Wolford, Kevin Call, and Charlie Johnson.

What can Raimann provide?

The Colts have great offensive lineman. Ryan Kelly, Quenton Nelson,  Danny Pinter, and Braden Smith have had success during their careers.  Bernard Raimann could be the missing piece to the puzzle for Indy’s offensive line. Raimann is 6-7 and can use his size to stop edge rushers. Additionally, Raimann can block in the run game and open up holes for Indy’s potent running attack.

Raimann attended Central Michigan and had a great 2021 season. He was named to Pro Football Focus All-American team, Sporting news second team, and received All-Mac First Team Honors. Central Michigan had one of the best offenses in the Mid-American Conference. In 2021,  the Chippewas averaged 202.3 passing yards and 218.2 rushing yards per game.

The Standard

Indianapolis’ offense has been built with a strong offensive line. Head coach Frank Reich wants his offensive linemen to win at the point attack, control the line of scrimmage, and provide good protection for the quarterback.  If Raimann can make strides during training camp and uphold Indy’s standard for offensive linemen, he could be the Colts’ next left tackle.
