Is Oregon QB Bo Nix the 'perfect prospect' for Denver Broncos?
The Denver Broncos should take a quarterback in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. One expert thinks a 2023 Heisman finalist could solve their woes.
Pro Football Focus' Trevor Sikemma deemed Oregon's Bo Nix an ideal fit for the Broncos in a piece that named a perfect prospect for each NFL team.
"If they stay in the middle of the first round, where they are projected to pick, Nix would be an ideal option," wrote Sikemma. "Nix has legit NFL arm strength in both distance and velocity, as well as added mobility with his legs. He's also the most experienced college quarterback of all time, with 60 games as a starter. He and Sean Payton could work well together."
Tankathon projects Denver will have the 14th overall pick. Top prospects, such as North Carolina's Drake Maye and Southern Cal's Caleb Williams, will probably be off the board. Selecting an experienced passer like Nix, 23, makes sense.
In 14 games, he completed 77.4 percent of his passes for 4,508 yards, 45 TDs, three interceptions and a 91.8 QBR, second in the FBS. However, some scouts wonder if his game will translate to the next level and think he's a boom-or-bust prospect.
"Nix will ultimately be a dice roll on traits. His athleticism and arm talent can be game-changing if honed correctly," wrote Bleacher Report's Derrik Klassen. "With that said, it's a little worrisome that Nix is still unrefined in some areas as an older prospect with a ton of games under his belt. Nix would fit best in a spread-oriented offense that emphasizes RPOs, the quarterback run game and vertical passing."
Regardless, Denver might have to take a flier on a prospect like Nix. The Broncos will reportedly release QB Russell Wilson in March, and backup Jarrett Stidham is inexperienced. He's only made three starts in five seasons.
