Jaguars assistant Brian Schneider taking leave for personal reasons

New Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer will be without one of his assistants for an unannounced amount of time.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reports Jacksonville special teams coordinator Brian Schneider is taking a leave from coaching for undisclosed personal reasons. Rapoport adds the Jaguars "will fully support Schneider and his family during this time."

Some may remember that Schneider took a similar leave from the Seattle Seahawks last September shortly before the start of the regular season. According to Field Gulls, former Seattle special teams assistant Larry Izzo remained the club's special teams coordinator even after Schneider returned to the Seahawks in November.

Schneider joined Jacksonville in January.

Schneider previously worked under Seattle head coach Pete Carroll at USC and then with the Seahawks from 2010 through last season and built one of the NFL's best special teams units of the last decade.

Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk explained it's presumed Jaguars assistant special teams coach Carlos Polk will accept more responsibilities in Schneider's absence.
