Jaguars RB James Robinson disagrees with Urban Meyer's explanation for benching

Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson was a popular pick for fantasy football owners after finishing his 2020 rookie season with more than 1,000 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns. But Robinson has spent a puzzling amount of time during the 2021 season watching from the sideline.

In a blowout, 37-7 loss against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 13, Robinson carried the ball just eight times for 24 yards. After the game, Jaguars first-year head coach Urban Meyer was asked if Robinson was benched for his first quarter fumble, but he told reporters that wasn't the case and that the running back was sidelined due to an injury.

But Robinson shot down that theory during a Monday appearance on Jags Report Live.

"When [a fumble] happens and you're out for that long, you've gotta feel that way," Robinson said when asked if he felt he was benched. "I was just waiting my turn to get back in the game and it didn't really come until the third quarter."

Robinson said there were even times when Jaguars running back Carlos Hyde wanted rest, but coaches stopped Robinson when he tried to run on the field and fill in for Hyde.

Meyer was asked Monday why three of Robinson's eight carries came in the final two minutes of the 30-point loss if he was injured. Meyer four-word answer was, "That's a good question."

"I knew the game was over by that point," Robinson said on Jags Report Live. "I probably should've been resting. I'm not sure what the point of that was."

The Jaguars fell to 2-10 on the year with the loss to the Rams.
