Jalen Hurts has not spoken to Carson Wentz since trade

The Philadelphia Eagles traded Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts last month, leaving Jalen Hurts as the franchise's only quarterback.

On Monday, Hurts told John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia and ESPN's Adam Schefter that he has not spoken to Wentz since the trade. He also said he hopes to prove that the Eagles made the right decision to keep him around.

Wentz reportedly was not happy when Doug Pederson opted to bench him after Week 13 and start Hurts for the remainder of the season. It's hard to imagine Wentz holding a grudge against Hurts because of that, but it certainly doesn't sound like the two took the time to get to know each other in 2020. If they were close, maybe the two would have spoken since the trade.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on Monday that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie wants Hurts to be the team's starter next season. Head coach Nick Sirianni still isn't sure who will start, and Philadelphia is expected to bring in another quarterback to compete with Hurts.

However, Lurie reportedly doesn't want a competition and wants the Eagles to commit to their current QB. Hurts wasn't great in 2020 and needs to show some improvement in 2021 in order to land the starting job.
