Jerome Bettis gives his take on current state of Steelers

There have been many questions surrounding what the Steelers will look like next season ever since the team decided to keep Matt Canada as its offensive coordinator.

Former Steelers RB Jerome Bettis recently added his thoughts to the discussion.

"Ninety percent of the NFL, the strength of your football team is gonna be your offense, and we look at this team and they've got the pieces to be special," Bettis said on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd." "But the question mark is what type of offense are we? And it's been a question mark for the last three years."

Pittsburgh's offense has been one of the worst-ranked units in the league over the past few seasons. However, Bettis believes it may turn a corner in 2023 because of QB Kenny Pickett.

"I like him because we saw the last four weeks of the season. We saw his development and he started to go out and win football games," Bettis added. "That's a hard thing to do in the NFL for a young, rookie quarterback."

Following the Steelers' bye week, Pickett went 6-2 to finish the year, throwing five touchdowns and just one interception. He also became the first rookie in NFL history to have a game-winning touchdown pass in the final minute in back-to-back games.

"To go out on the last drive of a game and drive your team down to a winning touchdown or winning field goal," Bettis finished. "You've got to be special to do that. That's not something that's just in the handbook."

As much as there is to be worried about in Pittsburgh, there is just as much to be excited about. And Pickett may just be the catalyst the Steelers need to get back on track in 2023.
