The New York Jets may have the worst offensive coordinator in the NFL. According to Connor Hughes of SNY what they wanted was to keep Nathaniel Hackett on board OC. They couldn’t convince anyone to take the job.
This entire story makes sense. Even though the Jets are in win-now mode, they needed someone on board if Aaron Rodgers calls it quits after 2024. There’s no reason to keep Hackett on board after Rodgers leaves.
That being said, the Jets, right now, aren’t exactly a great landing spot, unless you’re an assistant coach not poised at becoming a head coach.
Let’s be honest about the Jets situation, though. They made their bed when they went after Rodgers and landed him in a trade, and now, they have to live with the consequences. Only time will tell whether or not the experiment will completely blow up in their faces (like the Favre trade).
Jets Failed at Replacing Nathaniel Hackett as Play-Caller
Right from the get-go, signing Nathaniel Hackett as offensive coordinator was a terrible move. It was clear the Jets were doing so to woo Aaron Rodgers to want to play there when it was thought he would be available.
Now, with the latest news, it’s clear that the organization wanted to move on from him as the primary play-caller in 2024. This makes sense after last season’s disaster on offense.
