Jets QB Zach Wilson will make 'life hell' for possible veteran QB competition in 2023

Zach Wilson told reporters Monday that he'd make "life hell" for any veteran quarterback competition that the New York Jets could bring in over the upcoming offseason.

When it was announced Friday that Mike White would be inactive for Week 18, head coach Robert Saleh said that veteran Joe Flacco would be getting the start in the regular season finale, with Wilson serving as the backup. Jets head coach Robert Saleh added last week that he would get the quarterback situation "fixed" in the offseason.

It's been speculated that Flacco could retire, and even though New York was already eliminated from playoff contention going into Week 18 against the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson didn't see a single snap during the contest (or in Week 17). The Jets lost six straight to end the campaign and finished last in the AFC East at 7-10.

Per SNYtv's Connor Hughes, Saleh didn't say Monday whether Wilson would be the team's starting quarterback next season but added "he will have a chance to compete."

In a team-high nine starts, Wilson finished the 2022 season with a team-low 54.5% completion percentage for 1,688 passing yards, six touchdowns, and seven interceptions along with a team-worst 72.8 quarterback rating. In five games (four starts), Flacco posted a 57.6% completion percentage for 1,051 passing yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions with a 75.2 quarterback rating, while White registered a 58.9% completion percentage for 1,192 passing yards, three touchdowns, and four touchdowns.
