The New York Jets are making one final quarterback switch for the 2022 season, and head coach Robert Saleh has a promise for the team's fans.
Mike White was in pain after Sunday. Told some people he didn't think he could go this week, per sources.

Had a tough day of practice on Wednesday. Flacco took the team reps on Thursday.
So Flacco gets one last hurrah. https://t.co/ero72VRXM6
Rosenblatt's tweets "one last hurrah" for the soon-to-be 38-year-old Flacco, as many suspect that the former Super Bowl MVP could retire at the end of the season. The Jets (7-9) were eliminated from playoff contention when they dropped their fifth straight game in Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks.
When Flacco is under center for the team's first offensive snap in Week 18 -- he also started Week 1 when Zach Wilson was injured -- it will mark his fifth appearance of the season and fourth start. Wilson has recorded a team-high nine starts, Mike White has made four starts and former CFL signal-caller Chris Streveler has appeared in two games off the bench.
Robert Saleh on the QB musical chairs, said it's hard to succeed without consistency at that position: "It's something we're going to get fixed in the offseason." #Jets

Why Flacco over Wilson?

Saleh calls it a coach's decision, saying the focus for Wilson is 2023. #Jets
According to Cimini, this is the second time in four weeks that White has been ruled out on a Friday due to his rib injury. Despite Saleh saying earlier this week that White should be "ready to go" for Week 18, he was downgraded to limited in practice on Thursday.
With White being ruled out, that changed the plan for Wilson, who was initially slated to be third on the depth chart for the contest against the Miami Dolphins. The 2021 No. 2 overall pick missed the first three weeks of the 2022 regular season with a knee injury, made seven straight starts, and was then benched in favor of White following the team's 10-3 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 11.
Despite suffering his rib injury in the Jets' Week 14 game against the Buffalo Bills, White was prepping to start the next contest against the Detroit Lions but couldn't get clearance from doctors. He missed the next two games, as Wilson stepped in again after having been benched.
The former BYU Cougar was benched again ahead of the Week 17 must-win contest against Seattle, but White went just 23-for-46 for 240 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions.
None of the Jets' starting quarterbacks have been impressive this season, but Flacco barely paces the trio in quarterback rating at 77.0. If Sunday is Flacco's final career regular season game, the former longtime Baltimore Raven may have a unique situation in his effort to get the win, as Baltimore's rival -- the Pittsburgh Steelers -- need a win, plus losses by the Dolphins and Patriots to make the postseason.
