Jets release veteran CB Pierre Desir

There's plenty of speculation about who will and won't be with the New York Jets past what quickly became a lost and disastrous regular season.

We now know at least one person who won't be a Jets employee beyond Tuesday.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo tweeted that the Jets are releasing veteran cornerback Pierre Desir just nine games into his New York tenure. The 30-year-old put pen to paper on a one-year contract with the Jets in the offseason worth $3.75 million. That deal included $3.25 million in guaranteed money.

Desir's time with the Jets is just one of many reasons why Gang Green remains winless heading into this Sunday's game at the Los Angeles Chargers. Per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Focus, Desir was benched in the season-opening loss to the Buffalo Bills and failed to impress while on the field.

According to the Around the NFL staff, Desir allowed completions on 74.5% of his targets, which ranks among the worst for players at his position.

He did, however, record three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, over nine contests. Some team in need of secondary help could view him as a relatively cheap rental who merely underperformed while suffering as a member of the worst team in the league that realistically could struggle to win a single game through Week 17.
