Jimmy Garoppolo not thinking about trade rumors: 'I'm a 49er'

People around the NFL believe the San Francisco 49ers will move on from Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason if they can find a better solution at quarterback, ESPN's Chris Mortensen said during "Sunday NFL Countdown."

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan denied the rumors last week and said he fully expects Garoppolo to be the team's starting quarterback in 2021. The Eastern Illinois product echoed those thoughts and admitted Monday that he isn't focused on any trade rumors.

"I honestly haven't put too much thought into it," Garoppolo said, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports. "All those things get said, but at the end of the day, I'm a 49er. I'm here to play quarterback. I'm here to be the quarterback of this team. And every day I go out there and try to prove that to my teammates and my coaches. At the end of the day, that's all that really matters."

Garoppolo has played just one full season in San Francisco since signing a then-record five-year, $137.5 million deal with the 49ers in 2018. During his only full season in 2019, Garoppolo went 13-3, leading the Niners to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2012.

Still, the 29-year-old has suffered a number of injuries, making him a potentially unreliable option for the team in the long run. He played just six games this season and just three during the 2018 season.

With several talented quarterbacks available in the 2021 draft, it might be surprising for the 49ers to commit to an injury-prone Garoppolo instead of looking at their future.
