49ers to move on from Garoppolo if they find a better option?
Are Jimmy G's days with the 49ers numbered? Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

NFL insiders think 49ers will move on from Jimmy Garoppolo if they find a better solution at QB?

Will Jimmy Garoppolo return to the New England Patriots in 2021? The thought picked up steam on Sunday morning. The Patriots are parting ways with Cam Newton this offseason and will be in need of a starting quarterback. Garoppolo could be the guy.

People around the NFL believe that the San Francisco 49ers will move on from Garoppolo this offseason if they can find a better solution at quarterback, ESPN's Chris Mortensen said during "Sunday NFL Countdown."

“Garoppolo’s injuries certainly complicate the picture. Kyle Shanahan, the coach said, he believes Garoppolo will be the quarterback in 2021, but he says he can’t say it with certainty," Mortensen said, as transcribed by Bleacher Report. "Most league insiders believe if there’s a better option, the 49ers will have somebody other than Garoppolo at the start of next season.”

Garoppolo has played just one full season in San Francisco since signing a then-record five-year, $137.5 million deal with the 49ers in 2018. During his only full season in 2019, Garoppolo went 13-3, leading the Niners to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2012.

Still, the 29-year-old has suffered an unimaginable amount of injuries, making him unreliable for the team in the long run. He played just six games this season and played in three during the 2018 season.

With a number of talented quarterbacks available in the 2021 draft, it wouldn't be smart for the 49ers to commit to an injury-prone Garoppolo instead of looking at their future.
