Jon Robinson's first-round draft history played big part in shocking Titans firing

The shock of the week in the NFL will undoubtedly be the Tennessee Titans firing general manager Jon Robinson.

Trading away star wide receiver A.J. Brown in the offseason and having him terrorize your defense certainly didn't help Robinson's cause.

However, looking at his first-round draft history, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise as you'd think.

From the 2016 NFL Draft on, Robinson has really only hit on defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons with a first-round pick. Simmons is one of the most talented defensive linemen in the NFL, but the buck stops there.

Talented 2016 first-round right tackle Jack Conklin signed a deal with the Cleveland Browns instead of re-upping with the Titans. The team never found a comparable replacement.

2017 first-round wideout Corey Davis and first-round cornerback Adoree' Jackson didn't return to Tennessee, either. 2018 first-round linebacker Rashaan Evans struggled at the end of his tenure with the Titans and is now an Atlanta Falcon.

2020 first-round tackle Isaiah Wilson was cut from the team for disciplinary reasons after one limited season. He's no longer in the NFL.

2021 first-round cornerback Caleb Farley has struggled with injuries and consistency since joining Tennessee.

2022 first-round wide receiver Treylon Burks might wind up being a really good player for the Titans, but he's the uneven return for the team shipping Brown to Philadelphia.

Robinson fared much better in other rounds, selecting guys like Brown, running back Derrick Henry, safety Kevin Byard, pass rusher Harold Landry, tight end Jonnu Smith, linebacker Jayon Brown, guard Nate Davis, cornerback Kristian Fulton, safety Amani Hooker and tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo.

The former Titans general manager won't be out of work for long, but he'll have to shore up his first-round draft picks if he's to find success with another NFL team.
