Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers are the most storied franchise in the NFL and have a very rich history. However, in the over 100 years of their existence, they have never had a Black quarterback open the season as the starter. Jordan Love is about to change that and will be one of just three to ever start a game.

The Packers are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL and have seen many quarterbacks start games for the team in their history. However, it was not until 2013 that a Black quarterback started a game for the team. Seneca Wallace started against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013. The next time a Black quarterback started a game for the Packers was in 2017 when Brett Hundley started multiple games for an injured Aaron Rodgers.

Love is tasked with following up two Hall of Fame careers. He has passed every test with flying colors so far and looks poised to be successful in the NFL. He was already very talented coming out of college, which is why the Packers chose to draft him in the first round despite having Rodgers. However, Love, despite all his talent, had to wait his turn.

He was put in a tough situation being drafted in the first round to back up a man who went on to win the MVP Award in consecutive seasons. Love never complained and answered every question with class, showcasing his maturity in a difficult position. Now it is his time to shine, and he'll get to make a bit of history in the process.
