King of Props: Fields of vision

In many respects, football is the ultimate team sport. Whereas a highly skilled individual can essentially take over a game in baseball, basketball, or hockey, success on the gridiron requires all 11 members of a unit to work together. It’s rare that an NFL player talks about any of the personal goals he has, but since a prominent one recently did, his admitted desire to set a new record warrants our backing for today’s top prop:

The bet: Over 72½ rushing yards for Bears quarterback Justin Fields (FanDuel)

Turned loose as a runner in his second year, Fields is sitting at exactly 1,000 yards with three games left to play. After last Sunday’s loss to the Eagles, he specifically addressed being within striking distance of the single-season rushing mark for quarterbacks: “I’m already deep in it this year, so might as well try to go get that record.”

The Ravens’ Lamar Jackson currently holds the title, having rushed for 1,206 yards in his second season. He narrowly cleared this number in Week 4 by getting to 73 yards against the Bills, and that same defense will be trying to contain a motivated Fields today. While stopping the run isn’t necessarily a weakness, Buffalo ranks in the bottom half of the league for yards allowed per attempt at 4.44.

Fields has accumulated at least 85 rushing yards in four of his last five games. The lone exception came in Week 13, when a shoulder injury limited him to six carries but he still reached 71 yards. With windy conditions in Chicago making it tough to throw the ball downfield, he should have double-digit totes as he closes in on his goal.
