K.J. Wright says Russell Wilson wasn't 'held to the same accountability' as rest of team

Two former Seattle Seahawks teammates of Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson believe the quarterback received preferential treatment from the Seahawks.

“He was not held to the same accountability as the rest of us,” former Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright said Wednesday on a podcast hosted by former Seattle star Richard Sherman, who aired similar gripes.

Sherman, who played cornerback in the NFL, continues to push the narrative that the Seahawks forced him out because he questioned the organization’s authority and asked for Wilson to take more responsibility.

“After a while it had to get to a point where he had to choose Russ or the defense," Sherman said in reference to head coach Pete Carroll. "After the Super Bowl loss, he made it pretty clear who he was choosing."

In Super Bowl XLIX, Wilson tossed an interception late in the fourth quarter, sealing a 28-24 loss to New England.

Wilson’s private frustrations with the Seahawks became public shortly after Super Bowl LV, as detailed in an ESPN report exploring the leadup to Wilson's trade to the Broncos. Carroll reportedly tried to keep Wilson in Seattle, but he could not mend the relationship.
