Kyle Trask details first phone call with Tom Brady after being drafted by Buccaneers

Kyle Trask could be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' future franchise quarterback. For now, he'll have the opportunity to back up one of the greatest to ever play the position.

The Bucs selected Trask in the second round of this year's draft out of Florida. During an appearance Thursday on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access," the former Gators star detailed a phone conversation he had with Tom Brady just a few days after being drafted.

"He actually did reach out to me a couple days after the draft and was just checking in on when I'm gonna get into town so we can get together and maybe do some throwing and things like that," Trask said. "It meant a lot to me. Not only Tom, but a couple other guys have reached out. You can definitely tell they have a great culture and a great group of people in this building and I can't wait to get started."

Brady is under contract through the 2022 season and has said he would consider playing beyond age 45. Trask likely won't take over for a while, but he should be more than ready when he does.

After drafting Trask, Bucs head coach Bruce Arians lauded the young passer, saying he loves everything about the former Gator.

"He's accurate, he's smart, he's tough, he knows how to move inside the pocket," Arians said, before addressing Trask's lack of mobility. "We don't draft guys to run, we draft them to throw. And he's accurate as hell."

In his senior season at Florida, the 23-year-old completed 68.9% of his passes for 4,283 yards and 43 touchdowns against eight interceptions. His 43 passing touchdowns led the FBS last season, and he broke Danny Wuerffel's school record of 39, tying him for third on the SEC single-season record list.
