The Las Vegas Raiders are certainly in need of some offensive help, and they may have filled a big need with a signing they made this week.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL media, the Raiders have signed offensive lineman Andrus Peat.

Peat, who played his collegiate football at Stanford, was originally selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 13th overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.

The 30-year-old spent nine seasons with the Saints, making three straight trips to the Pro Bowl between 2018 and 2020.

When healthy, Peat has proven to be a stalwart in the trenches, but that’s the problem: he has had a lot of difficulty staying on the field.

Even during his stretch of three consecutive Pro Bowls, Peat missed 12 games and never played in any more than 13 contests in any of those three seasons.

Peat did manage to appear in 16 games in 2023, but he participated in a grand total of 17 affairs in the two prior years combined.

Las Vegas can afford to take the risk, though. It definitely needs help along its offensive line.

Many expected the Raiders to address their offensive line in the first round of the draft, especially after they missed out on taking a quarterback.

However, Las Vegas opted to select University of Georgia tight end Brock Bowers in a move that was widely criticized. While Bowers is considered by some to be a generational talent, he does not fill an immediate need for the Raiders, who needed to add some protection up front.

To be fair, Las Vegas did take offensive linemen with back-to-back picks in Rounds 2 and 3, but many feel the club should have grabbed one of the top offensive linemen with the 13th overall selection.

We’ll see if Peat can remain healthy and help stabilize the Raiders’ offensive front.
