Lions CB Jeff Okudah out for the season with ruptured Achilles
Tough news out of Detroit on Monday, as an MRI revealed cornerback Jeff Okudah will be out for the remainder of the 2021 season with an Achilles injury.
The third-overall pick from last year's draft was injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 41-33 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on a play that took place away from the ball. Okudah needed the help of trainers to get off of the field and head coach Dan Campbell admitted postgame that an Achilles diagnosis was possible.
"They said that could be a possibility, but we don’t know for sure so I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves with it," Campbell said Sunday via the Detroit Free Press.
The news is especially unfortunate for Okudah, who was working to rebound from a disappointing rookie campaign and had looked more confident through the preseason.
Detroit is plenty banged-up heading into Week 2's matchup against the Packers in Green Bay. In addition to Okudah, the Lions will be without top receiver Tyrell Williams, who had to enter concussion protocol during Sunday's game, and top left tackle Taylor Decker, who remains sidelined with a finger injury.
