The Los Angeles Chargers, like so many other teams, are in the midst of making their final roster cuts. There are a lot of quality players in the league and only so many roster spots so there are often surprises. The Chargers cut former College Football Playoff star Max Duggan who led TCU to a national championship appearance.

Los Angeles Chargers Cut Max Duggan

Duggan was the 239th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. A mere eight months ago, he was on top of the world playing for a national championship and finishing second place in the Heisman Trophy voting behind Caleb Williams. Now, he will likely find himself on a practice squad trying to find a way onto a roster. He lost out on the competition to be the backup to Justin Herbert by Easton Stick. He made appearances in two out of the three preseason games completing six of his 12 passes for 34 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. It wasn’t enough to get him a roster spot.

Difference Between College And The NFL

Duggan being cut shows the difference in how the two leagues run. While there is no denying that TCU had a great offense, it was not one that is run in the NFL all that much. Duggan was unpolished and needed some work to make it in the NFL which is why he fell to the seventh round. We’ve seen many quarterbacks who had success in college simply not be able to make it in the NFL for a myriad of reasons. This is not something to be ashamed of as having success at the college level is impressive.

While it probably won’t be with the Los Angeles Chargers, the hope is that Max Duggan gets a shot with another team.
