Utah NHL team has list of names narrowed down to six

When the Arizona Coyotes packed up shop and moved to Utah following the 2023-24 season, we knew they were going to have a new name.

We just did not know what that name would be.

Now we at least have some idea.

The six finalists for the new nickname are the Yeti, Blizzard, Mammoth, Venom, Outlaws and Utah Hockey Club (Utah HC).

It is certainly an interesting list. Utah HC would be very unique for the four major North American sports and borrow from what we typically see with soccer teams, specifically those in Europe.

Venom seems like the type of name that you might find with a minor league team or some start-up roller hockey league that won't make it past its second season.

Yeti, Blizzard and Mammoth are not only creative and fun, but they also have some of the best potential mascot possibilities. Especially as it relates to the Yeti.

Utah plans to play next season as the Utah Hockey Club and will rollout the new nickname, logo and uniforms in time for the 2025-26 NHL season.
