The Cincinnati Bengals announced Wednesday that they would be releasing safety Nick Scott. The Los Angeles Rams immediately bubbled to the surface as a perfect fit for the 29-year-old former 7th-round draft pick for several reasons.

2024 Rams Free Agency Tracker

1.) The Rams need to add a safety, as Jordan Fuller and John Johnson are both currently free agents. 2.) Scott will likely cost less than either option. And 3.) Scott was drafted and played for the Rams from 2019 to 2022.

Bringing Back Nick Scott Is A Guaranteed Fit For The Los Angeles Rams

Scott may be most famous for his big hit on Deebo Samuel during the NFC Championship that dislodged a possible first down catch and effectively ended the drive. Nick Scott was a starter in that game, in part, because Jordan Fuller was injured. He played extremely well in his stead which spanned the Rams’ journey through the playoffs and an eventual Super Bowl win. There are no two better ways to ingratiate yourself to a fan base than blowing up a rival and one of its most hated players, Samuel, as well as, acquitting yourself as a backup during a playoff run.

While that hit stands out, Scott is one of the most physical defensive backs to play for the Rams during the last few years. He has made his money routinely laying the wood on the opposition. If acquired he will be paired with Russ Yeast, who has developed into the new ‘Nick Scott.’

The Rams have already brought back cornerback Darious Williams, another member of the championship team and fan favorite. At a low cost, the Rams could get the band back together and shore up the defensive backfield at the same time.
