Match game: Eagles open to re-signing James Bradberry

James Bradberry proved his worth with excellent play in 2022, but the Philadelphia Eagles would still like a second opinion.

Bradberry signed a one-year, $10M contract last offseason after being released by the New York Giants. The Eagles would like to keep him for 2023, but not until the free agent tests the market.

According to a report by Josina Anderson, the Eagles have asked Bradberry for the right to match any offer. This should come as no surprise once they gave Darius Slay permission to seek a trade.

The Eagles have less than $7M in cap room for 2023, with a $26M cap hit for Slay. Bradberry would like to see what his services are worth, but his market value is believed to be just over $15M per year.

In seven seasons with the Panthers, Giants and Eagles, Bradberry’s average salary has been just under $6M per year, so it’s easy to understand why he wants to test the market.

Bradberry told Anderson that he’d love to stay in Philadelphia and the fact that both parties are keeping open minds should make Eagles fans very happy.

The 6-foot-1 cornerback played in all 17 games last year, and his three interceptions tied Slay for second-most on the team and he led the Eagles with 17 passes defended.

NFL free agency begins on March 15, but teams can start making offers to unrestricted free agents on March 13.

Bradberry is considered a top option among free agent cornerbacks, so teams will be quick to make him an offer. If they’re smart, they’ll make it an offer Philadelphia can’t match.
