Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Mike McDaniel has enjoyed a great deal of success in his short time as an NFL head coach, but a text message exchange he had with Peyton Manning this week shows that he has not lost his humility.

Manning reached out to McDaniel in advance of the Miami Dolphins’ game against the Tennessee Titans, which was one of two games on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” doubleheader. Peyton wanted to chat with McDaniel as part of the Hall of Fame quarterback’s preparation for his and his brother Eli’s popular “ManningCast” alternate broadcast.

Manning was very polite and told McDaniel he would keep the conversation “short and sweet.” McDaniel had an awesome response.

“Um f— yes you’re f—ing Payton (sic) Manning bro,” McDaniel wrote back (edited by LBS for profanity).”

There probably are very few people who would get that response from McDaniel, but Manning is certainly worthy. The level of respect that current coaches and players have for both Peyton and Eli is one of the main reasons “ManningCast” has been so successful.

We doubt McDaniel was in as much of a generous mood after the game, however. His Dolphins committed the most brutal choke job of the season late in their 28-27 loss to Tennessee.
