Mike Vrabel has not been strongly linked to any NFL head coach jobs since he was fired by the Tennessee Titans, but he had his first known interview of the hiring cycle on Thursday.

Vrabel was in Los Angeles on Thursday to interview for the Chargers job, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Vrabel was viewed as a logical fit for the New England Patriots after Bill Belichick parted ways with the team, but that job belonged to Jerod Mayo all along. Some have also speculated that the 48-year-old former linebacker would make sense for the Seattle Seahawks, who just moved on from Pete Carroll.

The Chargers head coach job is viewed by many as the most attractive one available. They already have a franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert, though they need to fix some major defensive issues. Vrabel could certainly help in that department.

An NFL insider wondered last week if Tom Brady — Vrabel’s former teammate — might help steer the coach to a specific AFC team.

Vrabel went 54-45 in six seasons with the Titans. He made the playoffs three times but was fired after a disappointing 6-11 campaign this year.
