Reports of the Vikings contemplating a departure from Kirk Cousins have intensified, with news surfacing that they hosted a workout for veteran quarterback Colt McCoy in preparation for Week 6.

The Vikings, who boasted a strong 13-4 record last season, have stumbled to a concerning 1-4 start this year. Their situation has worsened with Justin Jefferson being placed on the IR, leaving Minnesota in disarray.

While Kirk Cousins ranks second in the NFL for passing yards at 1,498 and tops the charts with 13 touchdowns, the four narrow losses the team has suffered are edging them closer to the brink of a complete rebuild.

This is where 37-year-old quarterback Colt McCoy enters the conversation.

If the Vikings decide to commit to a full rebuild, they will need to acquire defensive assets as a priority. Trading Kirk Cousins for draft picks or defensive weapons could serve as the ideal starting point.

Furthermore, history has shown that Minnesota could turn to Colt McCoy as their interim solution.

McCoy has navigated the NFL waters over a 12-year career, donning the jersey of six different teams.

His most recent stint was with the Cardinals, where he initially served as a backup to Kyler Murray before stepping into the starting role when Murray sustained an ACL tear.

However, just before the 2023 season began, McCoy found himself without a job as the Cardinals opted to hand the starting position to Joshua Dobbs. At that point, retirement seemed like the likely path for McCoy.

Nevertheless, with quarterback injuries and other issues plaguing teams across the league, it appears that Colt McCoy is on the cusp of finding a new home somewhere in the NFL.
