Most overpaid NFL players at every position

Osweiler will take home $21 million in 2016, ranking fifth among quarterbacks. Houston is shelling out the money after seeing Brian Hoyer's failures last season, but Osweiler has thrown only 305 NFL passes. He will make more money than Drew Brees and Cam Newton in 2016.

Spiller just can't seem to stay on the field, yet he has the 17th highest salary among NFL running backs. He had only 70 touches in 13 games for New Orleans last season.

Olawale is tied for the second highest salary among NFL fullbacks, only trailing teammate Marcel Reece. That's a hefty salary given his limited contribution as a blocking back.

Jones cashed in with the Lions this offseason and will take home $13 million in 2016, ranking sixth among wideouts. That's a hefty sum for a player coming off a career year in which he had 65 receptions for 816 yards and four scores.

Wright is living off his huge sophomore season in 2013 when he had 94 receptions fro 1,079 yards. He's played only 24 games over the last two seasons and had just 36 receptions for 408 yards in 10 games in 2015. Despite his mediocre recent play, Wright is tied for the 19th highest salary at his position.

The Bills made a curious addition last year, making Clay one of the highest paid tight ends in the game. He's set to take home $11.5 million in 2016, second most at the position after catching only 51 passes for 528 yards last season.

A difference maker when he's on the field, Albert has struggled to stay healthy over the last four seasons. During that time, he's failed to play more than 14 games in a season, and he's played only 23 games in two years with the Dolphins. He's making $8.45 million in 2016, the eighth most at his position.

Clark ranks only 15th among right tackles in 2016 salary, but that's a high rate for his role as a backup. He's played 24 games over the last two seasons.

Allen is versatile and effective when he's on the field, but he played only one game in 2014 and 12 games last year due to injuries as a member of the Chiefs. Yet, the Texans gave him a lucrative deal, making him the third highest paid guard in the league with a $10 million salary due this season.

An extremely effective center when healthy, Pouncey played only one game in 2013 and missed all of last season due to injuries. He's set to make the fifth highest salary at his position in 2016.

A very talented young pass rusher, Vernon is still overpaid in 2016 given that he's the top-paid player at his position by a wide margin at $29 million. He had 7.5 sacks in 2015 with the Dolphins.

Joining Olivier Vernon is fellow Giant Pierre-Paul, who was ineffective after returning from a fireworks accident last season. He's out to prove that he can rebound after having only one sack in eight games but is set for the ninth highest salary at the position with $9.4 million.

Cox was handed a record-breaking contract by the Eagles during the offseason and is set to make $27.3 million in 2016. He will have a huge role in Jim Schwartz's defense after recording 9.5 sacks last season.

A former star with 10 sacks in 2014, Dareus was ineffective in Buffalo's new scheme last season with only two sacks in 15 games. He will make the third most money at his position this year at $15.15 million.

An elite pass rusher when he's on the field, Houston played only 11 games last season due to a knee injury and could miss half of 2016 or more following surgery. He only trails Von Miller among outside linebackers, making $23.5 million this season.

Oakland shelled out a huge sum for Irvin this offseason, and he becomes the third highest paid outside linebacker in 2016 at $12.5 million. However, he has only 22 sacks in four seasons, including 5.5 sacks last season.

Cushing played 16 games last season for the first time since 2011. His career has included a myriad of injuries, yet he's the 10th highest paid inside linebacker in 2016 at $6.25 million. Another year of health would get him off the list, as he's been productive when on the field.

Jenkins got a huge sum during the offseason from the Giants. A very talent player, Rams fans came to find his play to be inconsistent. He's set to make the second most money at the position with $16 million.

A former Pro Bowler, Haden suffered a laundry list of ailments in 2015 and saw his play decline previous to that season. He played only five games, but he's the 10th highest paid player at corner with $10.2 million in 2016.

Byrd's play has declined since joining New Orleans, and he's also had trouble staying on the field over the last three seasons. He's played only 28 games over that time and has just one pick in 17 games since joining the Saints. He's set to be the ninth highest paid free safety in 2016 at $7.5 million.

Bethea is starting to show his age, playing only seven games for the 49ers last season due to injury. At age 32, he remains the sixth highest paid strong safety at nearly $4.8 million.

The third highest paid kicker in football, Janikowski hasn't been particularly accurate. He made an ordinary 81 percent of his field goals last season on only 26 attempts, but he's set to make $3.6 million.

Ryan didn't have his best year in 2015, averaging 37.9 net yards per punt, fourth worst in the NFL. However, he's set to be the fourth highest paid punter in the game at $3.4 million.

Jansen has done a fine job over seven seasons for the Panthers, but he tops the list at long snapper by default as the highest paid. He will make nearly $1.6 million in 2016.
