Nathaniel Hackett promises Broncos offense is fine

Nathaniel Hackett promises his offense will crack the code, even though it's malfunctioning.

"I think everything's more growing pains right now," Hackett said in a Tuesday news conference.

Hopefully for the Broncos, the growth spurt will end soon. They rank second-to-last in scoring offense.

Red-zone woes contribute to the problems. According to ESPN, the Broncos rank dead last in this offensive category.

If they converted in these situations, it would be a different story, because their offense has flashed big play potential. Especially, when Russell Wilson lets the deep ball fly.

However, they are inefficient in these situations, which is one major reason they are stumbling out of the gates at 2-3.

Many point to Hackett, a rookie head coach, lacking situational awareness. Former Pro Bowl defensive back Richard Sherman condemned him after a Week 5 loss to the Colts for not running the ball on a fourth-and-one near the end zone. The failed conversion sealed their fate, a 12-9 overtime loss.

His inability to determine when to be aggressive showcased his inexperience.

Hackett does need to learn, but his personnel needs to make adjustments too.

The offense Hackett runs can work. Conceptually its roots tie back to Broncos legendary head Mike Shanahan, who won two Super Bowls with Denver.

However, his teams were not top 10 in passes dropped and did not draw 8.8 penalties per game, which is the most in the league.

"Guys just have to go back to their fundamentals," said Hackett when addressing these mishaps.

Perhaps the simple hack will solve the problems.
