New Bills RB Nyheim Hines strengthens Buffalo's already-lofty Super Bowl odds

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is already a big fan of new Bills running back Nyheim Hines.

“One play, me and [wideout Stefon Diggs] looked at each other like, ‘Holy crap, this guy is fast,'” Allen said (via PFT). “He’s smart, he’s already learning some of the plays and our system is not easy to learn. There’s still a lot of work there, but as far as what he can give this offense, it’s fun to have a piece like that.”

After being acquired via trade earlier this week, Hines makes the rich richer with his pass-catching ability and blistering speed adding to the more traditional rushing attack that the Bills have with Devin Singletary. Rookie James Cook has a similar skill set to Hines, but the latter has the veteran experience and can return punts. 

The Bills have the most dangerous offense in the NFL, and adding Hines just makes the team that much harder to defend. He had a bit of a quiet start to the year with the Indianapolis Colts (36 yards rushing, 1 TD; 188 yards receiving). In Buffalo, his fortunes should shift dramatically. 

Buffalo already has an elite QB in Allen, two amazing receivers in Diggs and Gabe Davis, and a touchdown-friendly tight end in Dawson Knox. Adding Hines to the mix just heightens the passing game while giving the team a reliable change-of-pace back so Singletary isn't shouldering too much. 

Going into January with a robust backfield is good for any playoff team, and now Buffalo has Singletary, Hines, Cook and veteran RB Taiwan Jones to help take pressure off the passing game.

As if Buffalo wasn't already a problem, now teams have to factor in one of the best pass-catching running backs in football. Sending RB Zack Moss and a conditional sixth-rounder to Indy is nothing compared to what Hines can give the Bills down the stretch.
