The New York Giants have parted ways with a former All-Pro wide receiver before Sunday’s tilt against the Washington Commanders. Former Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills star Cole Beasley, who signed a one-year deal with the Giants this offseason, was granted his release on Friday.

Beasley never suited up in the regular season for the New York Giants. He had been on the practice squad injured list (IR) since before Week 1 with a leg injury. However, despite being activated before Week 6, Beasley did not crack the active roster. Additionally, he had four receptions for 33 yards in the preseason. The 34-year-old last played in the regular season in 2022, catching just six passes between the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccanneers.

Ex-New York Giants WR Cole Beasley: Market Availability

Cole Beasley is a 12-year NFL veteran who could find himself joining a depleted receiving core sooner rather than later. He is just two years removed from an 82-catch campaign with the Buffalo Bills. Beasley posted three straight years of 100-plus targets from 2019 to 2021. The SMU product has 556 receptions for 5,744 yards and 34 touchdowns in his illustrious career.

Cole Beasley: COVID-19 Controversy

Beasley was at the center of the COVID-19 conversation in 2021, taking to social media to declare his unwillingness to receive the vaccine. The former All-Pro publicly argued with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Buffalo Bills teammate Jerry Hughes. Beasley received a $15,000 fine for refusing to wear a mask at a team facility. Per ESPN, Beasley received fines nearing $100,000 for COVID-19-related issues.
