With yesterday being the first day that the 2022 regular season was in the rearview mirror, the New York Jets started churning their roster as they gear up for a big offseason.
The team signed seven players to reserve/future contracts, all of whom either finished the year on the Jets practice squad or were on it at some point.
New York Jets add seven players on reserve/future deals:
1. Chris Streveler, QB
Preseason star last summer, Chris Streveler, floated between the practice and active roster at various points throughout the season. The third-year quarterback had his first game experience with the Jets in Week 16 and showed some intrigue with his moxie and ability to move, rushing for 54 yards in a little over a quarter. He even got seven special teams snaps the next week in Seattle.
The Jets have two free agents at quarterback going into this offseason, Mike White and Joe Flacco. This offseason, Streveler will get yet another opportunity with the Jets to compete.
2. Malik Taylor, WR
The Jets added Malik Taylor to their practice squad late in the season, prior to Week 17. Taylor is 27 and has four years of NFL experience. Nearly all of his time in the league had been spent with Jets offensive coordinator, Mike LaFleur’s brother, Matt, in Green Bay before the Jets picked him up.
3. Chris Glaser, OL
Offensive lineman Chris Glaser spent time as a rookie in 2022 with the Jets in training camp as well as on the practice squad. The team did let Glaser go from the practice squad in September but now brings him back.
4. Marquiss Spencer, DT
Marquiss Spencer has been in the NFL over the last two years. The Jets signed him to their practice squad in late November, but he was released just a week later.
5. Chazz Surratt, LB
One of the more fascinating signings here. Chazz Surratt was a third-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. The team waived him at final cutdowns late last summer, and the Jets picked him up. Surratt has some athletic upside, highlighted by his long speed and agility. He spent all year with the Jets practice squad, appearing in one game, and now gets a full offseason with the team.
6. Craig James, CB
Craig James has been signed by the Jets multiple times since last summer. He has five years of experience, mostly on special teams, which is where the Jets will have him compete.
7. Jimmy Moreland, CB
The Jets added Jimmy Moreland to the practice squad in September. He has four years of NFL experience as a seventh-round draft pick in 2019, with 1,077 snaps defensively logged and 331 on special teams.
