NFL 2017 Week 1 key injuries update
NFL Week 1 featured plenty of prominent injuries. The following slideshow features updates on the most prominent player injuries heading into Week 2.
Danny Amendola, WR, Patriots
Amendola still hasn't practice since suffering a concussion in New England's opener last Thursday. He's very questionable for Sunday's showdown with the Saints.
Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Giants
The Giants are optimistic that Beckham will make his season debut this week after sitting out Week 1 with an ankle injury. New York desperately needs him considering how lackluster the offense played against Dallas.
Benny Cunningham, RB, Bears
Cunningham has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and will miss 4-6 weeks. Rookie Tarik Cohen had a breakout first game and will continue to fill-in as Chicago's pass-catching back.
Brian Cushing, ILB, Texans
Not only did Cushing suffer a concussion in Houston's loss vs. Jacksonville on Sunday, but he was also slapped with a 10-game suspension for violating the league's PEDs policy.
Ronald Darby, CB, Eagles
Darby received relatively good news after being carted off during Sunday's game at Washington. He has a dislocated ankle but is only expected to miss 4-6 weeks. The Eagles will still need to find someone to cover the speedy Tyreek Hill in Kansas City on Sunday.
C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Texans
Fiedorowicz was placed on the injured reserve with a concussion after also suffering a concussion in camp. After also losing backups Ryan Griffin and Stephen Anderson to concussions, the Texans are in dire straights at tight end for Thursday's game.
Jerrell Freeman, LB, Bears
Freeman suffered a concussion and pectoral injury against the Falcons in Week 1, so the Bears have placed him on injured reserve. It's a big loss for Chicago's run defense.
E.J. Gaines, CB, Bills
Gaines left Sunday's game with a shoulder injury during the fourth quarter, but he's expected to play this week against Carolina.
Dont'a Hightower, LB, Patriots
New England's defense was thrashed on Thursday after Hightower went down with a sprained MCL. He still hadn't practiced as of Wednesday, and is no better than questionable for Sunday's game vs. New Orleans.
D.J. Humphries, LT, Cardinals
Humphries suffered a sprained MCL on Sunday and is expected to miss 1-2 weeks. It's just another major injury for Arizona to overcome after losing David Johnson.
David Johnson, RB, Cardinals
Johnson was placed on the IR following wrist surgery. While the initial timetable for his return was stated as 2-3 months, head coach Bruce Arians stated that he hopes to have Johnson back by Christmas. The Cardinals will go running back by committee to replace the superstar, re-signing Chris Johnson this week.
Jason Peters, LT, Eagles
Peters left during Sunday's game with a groin injury, but he's expected to go this week at the Chiefs. He will have his hands full with Justin Houston and Dee Ford.
Thomas Rawls, RB, Seahawks
Rawls was out during Week 1 with an ankle injury, but he practiced in full on Wednesday. He's likely to play on Sunday against the 49ers.
Orlando Scandrick, S, Cowboys
There's no clear timetable for Scandrick's return after undergoing surgery for a broken left hand. He seems unlikely to play this week.
Caleb Sturgis, K, Eagles
No one is immune to injuries in the NFL, as Sturgis proves. He suffered a quad injury in the opener and was placed on the injured reserve. Philadelphia signed Jake Elliott to replace him.
Stephon Tuitt, DL, Steelers
Tuitt suffered a biceps injury on Sunday, but it doesn't sound as bad as initially feared. Head coach Mike Tomlin suggested that he could play this week against the Vikings.
Kevin White, WR, Bears
White was diagnosed with a broke shoulder blade following Sunday's game and was placed on injured reserve. It's another majors bump in the road for a player who has struggled to stay on the field since being drafted in 2015.
Danny Woodhead, RB, Ravens
Woodhead will miss at least four weeks with a hamstring injury. Buck Allen is set to see more snaps in his place.
