NFL cancels plans for Combine 'bubble' amid boycott threats

Two days after a memo announced that the 2022 NFL Combine would be held in a strict bubble, the NFL altered the protocols Monday amid backlash from player agents and the NFL Players Association.

On Saturday, prospects were told they would be "restricted to secure Combine venues" and allowed to bring only one fully vaccinated person for medical support. The league backed down in a message sent to prospects Monday.

"We encourage all players to remain within the secure Combine areas at all times for your safety," the message reads, via Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. "However, if you would like to leave the secure areas during free time in your schedule, you are now permitted to do so at your own risk."

The reversal came after reports indicated agents representing about 150 draft prospects were considering a boycott of the event due to the protocols.

The 2022 NFL Combine is scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 28 with the first on-field workouts set for Thursday, March 3.
