NFL execs believe Bears will consider re-signing Mitchell Trubisky

Mitchell Trubisky has played well for Chicago since the Bears reverted to the fourth-year quarterback in Week 12 after benching him following a Week 3 loss. With back-to-back wins over the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings, some believe that Trubisky could remain in Chicago despite the team declining his fifth-year option.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, some NFL executives believe the Bears will consider re-signing Trubisky, who has played some of the best football of his career in recent weeks. If Chicago can win its final two games of the season and clinch a playoff berth, Trubisky's chances of returning to the Bears would be even greater, Schefter adds.

In seven starts this season, Trubisky is 5-2, completing 64.5 percent of his passes for 1,538 yards and 14 touchdowns against six interceptions. It's worth wondering what the Bears (7-7) record would look like if Trubisky had remained the team's starter throughout the season.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy and Trubisky have combined to post a 24-12 record in games in which the 26-year-old has started. When Trubisky is on the bench to start games, Nagy and the Bears are 3-7.

If the Bears don't re-sign Trubisky, or he signs elsewhere, they'll have to rely on Foles, who is under contract through the 2022 season. The team could also draft a quarterback or look at options in free agency.
