NFL executive believes retirement could be on Andy Reid’s mind

The Kansas City Chiefs are just one win away from playing in their third Super Bowl in the last four seasons, and ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler says sources have hinted to him a second Super Bowl win could be the last hurrah for head coach Andy Reid.

In his recent bold predictions column, Fowler polled NFL execs to pick their brains on a number of topics. Fowler reported that multiple people believe retirement just might be on Reid’s mind.

“This one is hardly a slam dunk with Reid still dominating and Patrick Mahomes set to quarterback the Chiefs for the next decade, but it’s worth noting that when people involved in the coaching carousel talk about jobs, they often ask whether Reid will walk away at some point in the short term,” Fowler recently wrote.

Reid is the fifth-winningest head coach in NFL history (247). He needs just six more wins to pass Hall of Famer Tom Landry for fourth all-time. Reid and New England’s Bill Belichick are the only active head coaches with 200 or more wins.

Should the Chiefs go all the way, Reid would become just the 14th head coach in NFL history to win multiple Super Bowls—certainly a storybook way to ride off into the sunset.

“I just think at some point he could make the life decision to walk away from the grind,” Fowler said he was told by an AFC scout. “I could at least see it.”
