Patrick Mahomes will try to do something he's never done before in AFC Championship Game

The Kansas City Chiefs are in the AFC Championship Game for the fifth-straight time, but not all is well for KC as it prepares for a rematch of the 2022 AFC Championship Game.

Notably, superstar quarterback and likely NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes is questionable with a right ankle injury. Mahomes suffered the injury in the first half of Kansas City's 27-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional round. He was able to come back in the second half and lead his team to a win, but it was bad enough that backup Chad Henne had to take some snaps, and Mahomes was clearly hobbled for the rest of the game.

Of course, Mahomes wants to play against Joe Burrow and the Bengals. Any competitor would. That's the update from head coach Andy Reid, who also said that the superstar quarterback is working hard on rehab and right now he's "doing OK."

"He mentioned it to you that he's going to play. That's his mindset, and then we'll just take it day by day and see how he does," Reid told the media on Monday, per ESPN.

Reid isn't yet sure if Mahomes will be ready to practice come Wednesday when the Chiefs will again take the field to start preparing for Cincinnati. One would think that practice isn't a huge deal for the 2018 NFL and Super Bowl 54 MVP, but Reid did throw out a bit of caution regarding the idea.

"Yeah, I think so," Reid said regarding whether or not Mahomes can play against the Bengals without practicing. "He's never done that, so I don't know. I don't have the answer for you on that.'

Burrow and Cincinnati ended up beating the Chiefs last year in the title game at Arrowhead, 27-24. Mahomes threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns in that contest but he also threw two interceptions.

Henne was 5-of-7 for 23 yards and a touchdown in his limited snaps against the Jags.
