NFL reviewing Deshaun Watson suspension, determining next steps

On Monday morning, NFL disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson confirmed that she ruled Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson should be suspended for six games after she determined he violated the league's personal conduct policy regarding allegations of sexual misconduct during massage sessions.

The NFL has three business days to file an appeal per the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and responded to Judge Robinson's decision via a statement shared by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on Monday afternoon.

"We thank Judge Sue L. Robinson, the independent disciplinary officer, for her review of the voluminous record and attention during a three-day hearing that resulted in her finding multiple violations of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy by Deshaun Watson," the league stated. "We appreciate Judge Robinson’s diligence and professionalism throughout this process. Pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the NFL or the NFLPA on behalf of Watson may appeal the decision within three days. In light of her findings, the league is reviewing Judge Robinson’s imposition of a six-game suspension and will make a determination on next steps."

On Sunday evening, the NFL Players Association announced it "will stand by" Judge Robinson's ruling and called upon the league "to do the same." Meanwhile, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters last week that backup Jacoby Brissett will become his temporary QB1 if Watson misses any games because of a ban.

Watson's camp has now settled a total of 23 of 24 civil lawsuits brought against him, and two grand juries declined to indict him on criminal charges earlier this year.
