It was an audio revelation of sorts in NFL Week 1 when the ferocious Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald came loose and was on the attack with Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith in his path.

"Oh my God!" Smith could be heard saying as he released the ball ... with the All-Pro Donald continuing to come hard, make contact ...

And now preparing to absorb a fine for a hit on Geno.

The interaction went viral as it offered some insight into the realities of the game ... Smith - completely understandably concerned for his safety as one of the greatest defensive lineman ever came roaring at him.

The Rams won, upsetting the Seattle Seahawks 30-13 at Lumen Field. ... and that's the biggest part of this Week 1 story. But ... This weekend, the NFL announced a hefty fine for Donald for his hit on Smith, which wasn't especially violent ... but was a bit late. So, the NFL is fining Donald $16,391 for that "Oh my God!'' roughing the passer moment.

That is a way to send a message to Donald, who leads the Rams in looking to improve to 2-0 on the season with an upset win over the 49ers on Sunday. (It so happens that Los Angeles has lost eight regular-season games to their neighbors from up north, and that's not lost on the Rams.)

”But it comes only after Donald and Smith combined to send a scary audio message to the football world.
