On brink of another AFC South title, Titans fire GM Jon Robinson

The Tennessee Titans have fired Jon Robinson as general manager after a six-plus-year run with the franchise.

The move comes two days after the Titans were shellacked on the road by the Philadelphia Eagles, 35-10, a game in which former Tennessee star wide receiver A.J. Brown recorded eight catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Brown was traded from the Titans to the Eagles in April and following Sunday's game, No. 11 indicated that "it's been personal" since the move was made.

While Tennessee has lost back-to-back games and three out of their last five, they look to be well on their way to another AFC South title, which makes the firing surprising.

On the first day of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Titans received the 18th overall pick (wide receiver Treylon Burks) and a third-round pick (which was subsequently traded) in exchange for Brown. The 2020 Pro Bowler has registered 61 receptions for 950 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 96 targets this season.

Though he's played just eight games thus far, Burks is Tennessee's leading receiver, but that's not saying much. With Derrick Henry in the backfield, head coach Mike Vrabel runs a one-dimensional offense that has Burks leading the team with his 359 receiving yards.

Even though the Titans (7-5) hold a comfortable lead in their division, they've lost to three AFC championship contenders this season in the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs. Tennessee also has a -21 point differential and aside from the pitiful NFC South, head the least impressive division in football with the Indianapolis Colts (4-8-1), Jacksonville Jaguars (4-8) and Houston Texans (1-10-1) holding a combined 9-26-2 record.

The Titans' first game without Robinson running the show will be at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday against the Jaguars.
