Packers' Aaron Rodgers leaves game vs. Eagles with oblique injury
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers left Sunday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles with what the team called an "oblique" injury.
After leading the Packers to a field goal with 5:16 left in the third quarter, Rodgers headed to the locker room in obvious discomfort. The team later listed Rodgers as questionable, though the quarterback was spotted on the sidelines without his pads, hinting that he was out for the game.
It's unclear when Rodgers suffered the injury, but the 38-year-old entered Sunday night already banged up. According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Rodgers has been dealing with an avulsion fracture of his right thumb sustained last month in London against the New York Giants.
A source told Rapoport, "if it hasn't healed by now, surgery is almost always the only way to help it heal."
Before leaving the game, Rodgers went 11-of-16 for 140 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Rodgers was replaced Sunday night by backup Jordan Love, who made an immediate impact. On the third throw of his first drive, Love connected with rookie sensation Christian Watson for a 63-yard touchdown.
If Rodgers is out for an extended period, the Packers will turn the reigns over to the former first-round pick. Entering Sunday night, Love had seen action in two games this season, finishing 6-of-9 for 73 yards. The 24-year-old made one start during his rookie season in 2021, finishing 19-of-34 for 190 yards, with a touchdown and an interception, in a 13-7 Week 9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
