Packers' Aaron Rodgers to give Cowboys' Mike McCarthy 'a big old hug'

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is excited to see Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy this Sunday.

"I'm going to give him a big old hug, I can tell you that much," Rodgers said during his Tuesday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" about encountering McCarthy at Lambeau Field for the Week 10 matchup, as shared by Andrew McCarty of The Spun. "It's going to be good to see Mike. We've shared some messages over the past couple of weeks.

"I know it means a lot to him to come back. I really hope the reception for him is as warm as it needs to be. You know he's got a street named after him and obviously we won a Super Bowl together, but he meant a lot to the town for 13 years."

McCarthy served as Rodgers' head coach with the Packers from 2006 until he was relieved of his duties in December 2018. The pair guided Green Bay to a Super Bowl XLV win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in February 2011 for the only title they won together.

Per Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports and Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' website, McCarthy spoke highly of his former signal-caller and club during a conference call with Green Bay media members held on Monday afternoon.

"It's a fanbase that loves their team," McCarthy said about the Packers. He also admitted that he "would be all for a very positive reception" regarding his return to Lambeau. He's been with the Cowboys since 2020.

The Packers and Cowboys seemingly are going in different directions this fall. Green Bay has lost five in a row and sits at 3-6, while Dallas is coming off its bye week at 6-2.
