Packers HC Matt LaFleur: Jordan Love had 'one of his best practices we've seen in three years'

Back in June, Green Bay Packers backup quarterback and 2020 first-round draft pick Jordan Love commented that he will "take what I’m given and run with it" serving as the No. 2 option behind future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, who put pen to paper on a massive contract extension months earlier.

Love likely won't find himself playing against a live defense in a meaningful game anytime soon, but he recently impressed head coach Matt LaFleur with his work during training camp.

"That might've been one of his best practices we've seen in three years," LaFleur said of Love on Wednesday, per the NFL's website. "He made some big-time throws with pressure in his face."

Meanwhile, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst also sounded enthused about what he saw from the 23-year-old.

"I think you're seeing a more confident guy [who can say], 'OK, I know what's going to happen before it happens,'" Gutekunst remarked.

Last season, Love completed just 36-of-62 attempts (58.1%) for 411 yards with two touchdowns, three interceptions and a passer rating of 68.7. While it's widely assumed he'll be auditioning in front of would-be buyers when Green Bay opens the preseason at the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 12, Rodgers did admit late this spring that he thinks about retirement "all the time."

Perhaps Love is closer to becoming Green Bay's QB1 by next summer than some outsiders may realize.
