Packers looking to extend star CB Jaire Alexander
The primary name Green Bay Packers fans are likely focusing on this offseason is Aaron Rodgers, but the team is also apparently holding active discussions regarding a contract extension with a star member of the secondary. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on the rumors on Sunday afternoon at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Alexander is set to make $13.3 million in 2022, which is the final year of his rookie deal. The 2018 first-round was limited to just four games last season due to a shoulder injury, but he was a strong member of the Packers' defense over his first three campaigns, including a 2020 season that saw him make his first Pro Bowl.
In 13 regular-season games as a rookie, Alexander recorded career-highs in tackles (66) and fumble recoveries (two), while posting 11 passes defended as well. He added 58 tackles and career-highs in passes defended (17) and interceptions (two) across 16 regular-season contests in 2019, before registering 51 tackles and 13 passes defended in the 2020 regular season and two interceptions in a pair of postseason games.
This past season, Alexander posted 13 tackles and three passes defended in his four games.
