Packers QB Aaron Rodgers thinks about retirement 'all the time'

Unlike at this point last spring when it wasn't clear if Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers would force a trade from the organization or retire rather than play another down for the club, there are no questions about his status for 2022. Rodgers put pen to paper on a massive contract extension with the Packers in March that, theoretically, should keep the reigning Most Valuable Player linked with the franchise for at least several years to come.

However, the future Hall of Famer, who turns 39 years old in December, often marches to the beat of his own drum. Rodgers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills all participated in a roundtable event following Wednesday's edition of "The Match," and Rodgers admitted during the discussion that retirement is often on his mind.

"I think about it all the time," Rodgers said of calling time on his playing career, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

"When you commit, you’re 100 percent," Rodgers added during his comments. "But the older you get, the interests change, and the grind, I think, wears on you a little more. . . . The football part is the easy part. That’s the joy. It’s the other stuff that wears on you and makes you think about life after football. Tommy obviously set the bar so high with playing so many years, but I can definitely see the end coming."

One person likely intrigued after hearing Rodgers' words is Jordan Love, who is on track to serve as Green Bay's backup quarterback for his third season with the club and in the league. Whether or not Rodgers' "end" will allow Love to climb up the Packers' depth chart by this time next year is unknown.
